Weave tealight candle holders, fruit bowls, and sculptures | Metal weaving

Weave tealight candle holders, fruit bowls, and sculptures | Metal weaving

Weave tea light holders with wire and elephant wire

With wire and elephant wire, you can weave candle holders, fruit bowls, sculptures, or anything else. If you are not familiar with elephant wire, it is thicker wire than traditional wire, which allows for a more stable woven construction. If you are familiar with weaving techniques, you can use elephant wire as the frame for your construction. In this guide, we will focus on how to weave a candle holder with four candles using metal weaving / wire weaving.

Tools you will need:

  • Jewelry pliers with wire cutters on the end
  • Combined pliers for jewelry
  • Round nose pliers for jewelry

Materials you will need:

  • Wire
  • 7 pieces of elephant wire
  • Base made of wood, concrete, or plaster
  • Tea lights

Here's how you do it:

Step 1, Attach the elephant wires together at one end

Step 1

Begin with seven pieces of elephant wire that are about 40 cm long. Attach them together at one end to keep them organized.
Step 2, Weave around the 7 elephant wires with wire

Step 2

Now it's time to start weaving. Attach the end of the wire to one of the elephant wires. Then, guide the wire to the next elephant wire and wrap the wire around it once. Do the same with the next wire and so on. Make sure to include all seven wires in the weaving. Also, make sure that the wire is tightly secured. The tighter, the neater and more even the finished result will be.

When you have woven about 1-2 cm, bend the seven elephant wires. They should be bent about 10-15 degrees. Then, simply continue weaving. Remember to keep the weaving tightly together - this will result in the nicest finish.
Step 3, This is what the weaving looks like inside the candle holder

Step 3

This is what the weaving of the tea light holder looks like on the inside.
Step 4, Check if there is enough space for the tea light

Step 4

When you have woven about 4-5 cm, you can start checking if there is enough space for the tea light.

When the diameter is large enough, straighten the elephant wires so that they are vertical.

Then, continue weaving until the desired height of the tea light holder is reached.
Step 5, When desired height is reached, twist the wire twice and cut it

Step 5

When the tea light holder has reached the desired height, finish the weaving by twisting the wire around the elephant wires twice and cut it.
Step 6, Cut off the elephant wires

Step 6

Then, cut off the elephant wires.

You can optionally bend the ends into a small loop.
Step 7, Cut off the elephant wire at the other end

Step 7

Now, you can cut off the elephant wire at the other end. Cut it to the appropriate length.

You can mount the tea light holder on a wooden block, in clay, or cast a base in plaster or concrete.
Step 8, Twist the tea light holder in opposite directions to create a twist

Step 8

To add extra decoration to the tea light holder, you can twist it. Hold the top and bottom gently and twist in opposite directions.

Be careful not to press too hard, as the tea light holder can be squeezed together.

We wish you much enjoyment with your new creative project.
