Create your own personalized leather keychain with name

Techniques and Skills:

  • Use a strap cutter
  • Use an edge beveler
  • Emboss letters on leather

Materials you will need to make a keychain:

  • Leather strap: 2 cm x 100 cm
  • 20 mm D-ring
  • 1 key ring
  • 1 Chicago screw

Tools to use:

  • Letter stamps for embossing leather (e.g. letters for name)
  • Rubber mallet
  • Hole punch
  • Hobby knife or leather scissors
  • Screwdriver
  • Optional strap cutter (if you need to cut a leather strap from a piece of leather)

Here's how:

Step 1 Set up strap cutter and cut a leather strip

Step 1


Set up a strap cutter to 2 cm and cut a leather strip of about 100 cm in length.
Step 2 Cut the ends straight on the leather strip

Cut the ends straight on your leather strip.
Step 3 Bevel the edges with an edge beveler

Step 3


Bevel the edges of the leather strip with an edge beveler.
Step 4 Emboss letters on the leather

Step 4


Emboss the leather with letters, numbers or other stamps. For example, write your name on the leather, dad, mom, etc.
Step 5 Fold the leather around the D-ring and make a hole for the Chicago screw

Step 5


Fold the leather around the D-ring and make a hole through all 3 layers for the Chicago screw using the hole punch.
Step 6 Screw the Chicago screw in

Step 6


Screw the Chicago screw into the hole and tighten it with a screwdriver.
